The Cost of Living Index:

  • Enables us to represent the value of living in our communities.
  • Provides relocation data for potential new businesses and residents.
  • Increases our web visibility by providing a dynamic search engine on our website.

The cost of Living Index data is:

  • Comprehensive.  Data is available for over 300 metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs)
  • Categorical.  Organized into 6 categories:  food, housing, utilities, transportation, health care, and miscellaneous goods and services, as well as a composite index.
  • Timely.  Data is released only 2 to 3 months after its collection.
  • Reliable.  Methodology has been recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, President's Council of Economic Advisors, Bankrate.com and the Brookings Institution.
